Wordless Wednesday – Magic Kingdom

Broccoli Salad

Is it still too hot to turn on the stove or oven in your part of the world? Over the weekend, we had a small break from the hot weather when it rained on Saturday but it was still humid and muggy. It makes me think of that Simpsons episode where Homer builds a tent onto the fridge because it’s so hot. Ah, fridge tent! I think I’ll be needing one of those this summer. Phew! But back to the subject of cooking and eating. If you don’t want to cook, you can get take out but that gets boring and expensive after a while. I decided to take a recipe for one of my favorite salads and change it up a bit. Okay, it still involves a bit of stove top use but it’s worth it I promise.

Growing Green Onions

Are you on Pinterest? For those of you who don’t know about Pinterest, it’s a virtual pinboard – you post pictures of things and ideas that you find on the Internet that you really like. You can follow your friends or your favorite companies and see what they’ve added to their boards. It’s really great for sharing interests and getting new ideas! You can have a look at my boards here. Why am I talking about Pinterest? It’s where I got the idea for this post – growing green onions. Continue reading “Growing Green Onions”

‘Ohana’s Pineapple Breakfast Bread

Fans of Disney World know that when you plan a trip to see the mouse, you have to book your dining reservations 180 days in advance. It might seem a little strange but if you don’t make those reservations, you may not get to eat where you want, when you want. Many of you know that I’m going back to Disney World in January for marathon weekend to do Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge with my running group. Which means our 180-day window is coming up and it’s time to get organized. One of our group meals is going to be at the Polynesian resort. It’s my favorite resort at Disney – I love the theming of the resort and I think it has some of the best restaurants on property. That got me thinking about some of my favorite foods from the Polynesian. One of those is ‘Ohana’s Pineapple Breakfast Bread.

Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Protein Cookie Balls

Looks like July is here and I hope everyone’s summer is going well so far! I have no complaints except for the excessively hot weather. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take the heat over the cold and snow any day, but I love baking and running. Especially with baking, I’ve only been turning on my oven when I absolutely have to. So I went through some of the recipes I had and came across one for a no-bake cookie that was given to me by my chiropractor Marco.  Continue reading “Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Protein Cookie Balls”

It’s the Canada Day long weekend, which can mean a number of things – an extra day off work, a trip to the cottage, fireworks, or… Ribfest. June Foodie Penpals – Reveal Day

The Lean Green Bean

It’s June 30th which means it’s reveal day for the Foodie Penpal program. The Foodie Penpal program is the brainchild of Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean.  I love the idea of penpals and getting something in the mail other than my credit card bill. Interested? Here’s how the exchange works: Continue reading “June Foodie Penpals – Reveal Day”

Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies

I see lots of bloggers posting ice cream recipes and I have no room for an ice cream machine in my freezer. Kinda makes me sad. You thought the real estate market was bad? Try finding space in my freezer. Geez! But not having an ice cream machine isn’t all that bad because it’s a great excuse for me to get out and try something new. Enter Menchie’s, a popular self-serve fro-yo chain from the US. Yeah they’ve been around for a while but it’s new to Canada. And for all of you Dole Whip fans out there, if you can’t get to Disney World, Disneyland or Hawaii, you’ll want to keep reading.  Continue reading “Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies”

Torta All’Olio D’Oliva (Olive Oil Cake)

You know how there are some TV personalities that you could just watch for hours on end? It doesn’t matter what they’re talking about or what they’re cooking, they’re just nice to look at and that makes for good TV! Those of you familiar with David Rocco and Dolce Vita know what I’m talking about. So I was really excited to try a recipe from his latest book ‘Made in Italy’.
