The second day of the Goofy Race and Half Challenge started at bright and early at 2:20AM. Originally, the plan was to be up by 2:00AM like I was for the half but I ended up hitting the snooze button more than once. Getting up that early is tough but getting up for 2AM twice in a row, on four hours of sleep was especially tricky. But I managed to get up, shower, dress and eat my breakfast. The Disney World Marathon in January is one of my favourite Run Disney events to do. This year, I had signed up for the Goofy Race and Half Challenge which involves running the half marathon on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday.

I arrived at Disney World late Tuesday evening and spent the next few days hanging out with friends and relaxing before the race. Thursday morning, several of us headed over to the Health and Fitness Expo at the Wide World of Sports to pick up our bibs and do a bit of shopping. Race Report: Disneyland Half Marathon 2012

On Sunday Sept 3rd, I ran the Disneyland Half Marathon. You’re probably wondering, why all these Disney races? Well, Disney gives out a bonus “Coast to Coast” medal to anyone who’s participated in races at both Disney World and Disneyland in the same year. Since I had done the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge in January, I figured this would be the perfect year to run the Disneyland Half and collect my Coast to Coast medal. Orange Honey Madeleines

I have a confession to make. The first time I ever ate a Madeleine was at Disney World and then the next time I had one was at Starbucks. You know the kind that you pick up on a whim at the cash register? The ones from the Boulangerie Pâtisserie in Epcot were also sitting by the cash. I guess they’re an impulse purchase. I’m not sure how authentic those madeleines were but I liked the ones I had so much that I ran out and bought a Madeleine pan but this was a few years ago. I’m a little embarrassed to say that the pan sat unused until last weekend. Continue reading “Orange Honey Madeleines”

‘Ohana’s Pineapple Breakfast Bread

Fans of Disney World know that when you plan a trip to see the mouse, you have to book your dining reservations 180 days in advance. It might seem a little strange but if you don’t make those reservations, you may not get to eat where you want, when you want. Many of you know that I’m going back to Disney World in January for marathon weekend to do Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge with my running group. Which means our 180-day window is coming up and it’s time to get organized. One of our group meals is going to be at the Polynesian resort. It’s my favorite resort at Disney – I love the theming of the resort and I think it has some of the best restaurants on property. That got me thinking about some of my favorite foods from the Polynesian. One of those is ‘Ohana’s Pineapple Breakfast Bread.

Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies

I see lots of bloggers posting ice cream recipes and I have no room for an ice cream machine in my freezer. Kinda makes me sad. You thought the real estate market was bad? Try finding space in my freezer. Geez! But not having an ice cream machine isn’t all that bad because it’s a great excuse for me to get out and try something new. Enter Menchie’s, a popular self-serve fro-yo chain from the US. Yeah they’ve been around for a while but it’s new to Canada. And for all of you Dole Whip fans out there, if you can’t get to Disney World, Disneyland or Hawaii, you’ll want to keep reading.  Continue reading “Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies”

Chilled Strawberry Yogurt Soup

It’s hot and humid, and the city is under a heat alert. You know that blast of heat that hits your face when you open the oven door? It’s kind of like that. The last thing I want to do is pack a lunch for work. Unfortunately it was another busy day at the office and I only had time to run downstairs to grab something at the food court. I thought to myself “I’ll get a soup, because no one else is going to want soup today and I can be back upstairs in five minutes.” Murphy’s law – guess where everyone decides to go for lunch? There was a huge line at the soup place. Because nothing beats the heat like a steaming hot bowl of soup. Did I miss something? Continue reading “Chilled Strawberry Yogurt Soup”
