Lemon Curd

While playing beach volleyball Friday night, my calf cramped while diving for ball. Nothing like a cramp to make you feel old and out of shape. Wait a minute – I thought I was IN shape! So much for that. Though I did get back up to play, the cramp threw me off a little bit and running for the weekend was out because of lingering soreness.

So I spent the weekend with an ice pack and watching season one of “The Walking Dead”. Thanks to Eric for recommending it to me! Coincidentally, the electric utility thanks you too Eric. Tip: don’t watch zombie stuff after dark. Needless to say that I now want a crossbow and the episodes for season two. Why a crossbow? Just in case (’cause you never know). Okay, after hours of zombies, death and the apocalypse, it was definitely time to lighten up.

Fresh Find Friday – Airport Macarons

People tell me that traveling for business is not fun. I get it. You hurry to the airport, get strip searched by strangers, are crammed onto a plane, land, go to meetings, rinse, repeat and you’re on a plane back home before you know it. Fortunately, that’s not me. Kidding! I’ll just live vicariously through the rest of my friends who do travel for business. Where am I going with this? I got a present in a small paper bag last evening. A friend who had gone to France returned with a gift. He said “I knew you’d appreciate this.”  I opened the bag to find a giant green thing inside. Cauliflower Shepherd’s Pie

You know how just as you’re getting into the weekend, it’s already Sunday afternoon? There just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything and certainly never enough on the weekend to get everything done plus have time to relax. That’s why I’m always on the lookout for recipes that I can make on the weekends and then divide up for lunches or quick dinners during the week.

Chocolaty Yogurt Mousse

This past weekend was the Victoria Day long weekend which meant I had extra time to catch up on sleep, running, laundry and all those things I normally don’t have time for during the week. I went for a massage and then an impromptu pedicure with my friends Matt and Dawn. I couldn’t convince Matt that he’d be pretty in pink but hey at least the three of us will have the best looking feet for beach volleyball next Friday. Afterward we went for lunch and hit the local wing joint. I haven’t had wings in about a year. They were sooo good! And naturally after a lunch like that, the conversation turned to dessert. Even though Saturday is my food cheat day, I just couldn’t. I knew I had a container of Greek yogurt at home and it got me wondering whether I could use it to make a somewhat healthy dessert.  Continue reading “Chocolaty Yogurt Mousse”

Food Stories Nominee For Excellence in Storytelling

Thanks CJ at FoodStoriesBlog.com for the nomination!

Wow! I’ve received a nomination for the Food Stories Award for Excellence in Storytelling from CJ over at the Food Stories Blog. Thanks! I guess someone is reading my blog after all! I’m kidding, I’m kidding! I really am quite flattered.

So here’s how it works:

1. The nominee should visit the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/) and leave a comment indicating that they have been nominated and by whom. (This step is so important because it’s the only way our judges will know who is being considered for the monthly presentation).
2. The Nominee should thank the person that nominated them by posting & including a link to their blog.
3. Share one random thing about yourself in your blog post.
4. Select at least five other bloggers that you enjoy reading their stories and nominate them for the award.
5. Notify your nominees by leaving a comment on their blog, including a link to the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/).
Food Stories will put together a team of judges to review all nominees and to select a Food Stories Award Winner for each month. More information to come on what fabulous opportunities await for those lucky winners!

My nominees are (in no particular order):

One random thing about myself: I use to collect Beanie Babies.

So thanks again CJ! http://foodstoriesblog.com

The Versatile Blogger Award

Thanks to Drive Thru Guy for the nomination!

Well, it’s the Victoria Day long weekend which means I finally get an extra day off. Time to catch up on my to-do list. Big thanks to Drive Thru Guy for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award. My apologies for the late post. In between training for my half and being sick, all of my spare time seems to have disappeared. I wanted to say that I’m really flattered because I haven’t been around for as long as some of the other blogs that I’ve been reading. But go and check out Life in the Drive Thru when you have a chance. It is absolutely hilarious! Continue reading “The Versatile Blogger Award”

Fearless Fridays: No bus for you

Not In Service

Wednesday afternoon I left work early for a dentist appointment 4:00PM, but I didn’t get home until 6:00PM! I missed my appointment and was angry that I left work early for nothing. The TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) is not “The better way”. Later that night, I complained to my chiropractor Marco that since I ran the Sporting Life 10K in 56:09, I should have just run home from work. We laughed, but little did I know I’d have to put my money where my mouth was, because today I chased a bus down for half a mile. Yes, that’s right: I ran for half a mile in my work clothes while carrying my purse and all of the crap I usually drag home with me at the end of the day. Fortunately I had my running shoes with me. God bless Asics! Here’s what happened: Continue reading “Fearless Fridays: No bus for you”

French sticks

I was in Whole Foods earlier this week, when I happened to walk by their cheese counter and noticed a sale on triple cream brie. Whole Foods is one of those stores I go into, intending only to buy a select few items but always walk out with an armful of goodies. How do they do that? I had my shopping list and I was just minding my own business. Anyway, I ♥ cheese, especially triple cream brie! As I headed home, I realized that I had forgotten to pick up some bread to go with it. Oops. See what happened was, I walked by the breads but heard some other goodies calling out to me. I also love their banana chocolate chip muffins but brie and a banana chocolate chip muffin don’t exactly go together, you know what I mean? What to do? Well, I have some compressed yeast and flour so let’s make some French sticks! Continue reading “French sticks”
