Surprises in the mail – The Spice Trader

Well I didn’t get a chance to participate in the Foodie Pen Pals program in August. There was too much going on and I decided I wouldn’t have enough time to go shopping and get a package in the mail. I didn’t want to disappoint anyone because I always look forward to get my package every month. I was pretty much resigned to getting the usual bills, bills and more bills, maybe with the occasional flyer thrown in. And then I came home the other day and found a box from The Spice Trader addressed to me with my name on it. Continue reading “Surprises in the mail – The Spice Trader”

Race Report: A Midsummer Night’s Run – 30K

On Saturday August 18, 2012, I took part in the Midsummer Night’s Run 30K. The Midsummer Night’s Run is one of my favourite races to run because it’s generally well organized and on the smaller side. Plus I love running in the evening and a lot of runners get dressed up in costume. No, I don’t get dressed up but I like looking at all the fun costumes! Review – The Black Camel

Sandwich shops are a dime a dozen in the city but it’s rare to find a place that sells tasty sandwiches at a reasonable price. It’s even more rare to find a decent BBQ place in Toronto. What if you were able to find a sandwich shop that sold awesome BBQ sandwiches at reasonable prices? But a sandwich shop with awesome BBQ at reasonable prices? I was surprised when I stumbled upon just this at The Black Camel. Located across the street from the Rosedale subway station, The Black Camel is easy to miss if you don’t know where to look. I decided to check them out upon the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area.  Continue reading “Review – The Black Camel”

Review: Toronto Ribfest 2012

It’s the Canada Day long weekend, which can mean a number of things – an extra day off work, a trip to the cottage, fireworks, or… Ribfest. Held every year in Centennial Park over the Canada Day weekend, Toronto’s Ribfest is a chance for you to stuff your face full of ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken, blooming onions, and whatever else you happen to find.

June Foodie Penpals – Reveal Day

The Lean Green Bean

It’s June 30th which means it’s reveal day for the Foodie Penpal program. The Foodie Penpal program is the brainchild of Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean.  I love the idea of penpals and getting something in the mail other than my credit card bill. Interested? Here’s how the exchange works: Continue reading “June Foodie Penpals – Reveal Day”

Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies

I see lots of bloggers posting ice cream recipes and I have no room for an ice cream machine in my freezer. Kinda makes me sad. You thought the real estate market was bad? Try finding space in my freezer. Geez! But not having an ice cream machine isn’t all that bad because it’s a great excuse for me to get out and try something new. Enter Menchie’s, a popular self-serve fro-yo chain from the US. Yeah they’ve been around for a while but it’s new to Canada. And for all of you Dole Whip fans out there, if you can’t get to Disney World, Disneyland or Hawaii, you’ll want to keep reading.  Continue reading “Fresh Find Friday – Munching at Menchies”

Race Report – Toronto Pearson Runway Run 5K (2012)

The Toronto Pearson Runway Run 5K was held this morning on June 23, 2012. I was going to ask how often do you get to run at the airport, but I think I know the answer to that question. The best part about this race is that you’re not carrying a 20 pound suitcase trying to make it to your gate on time: you’re out on the tarmac and planes are landing and taking off as you run. How cool is that? The money raised from the race goes to a great charity –  Hope Air which helps financially disadvantaged Canadians make travel arrangements for specialized health care. Foodie Penpal – Reveal Day

I can’t believe it’s already the end of May. Where has the month gone? I feel like I was just making plans for Mother’s Day not too long ago. Oh well. You know the saying about time flying, so I must be having fun. Anyway, this month, I got involved in the Foodie Penpal program which was started by Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean.  Since it’s the end of the month, today is the reveal day! Fresh Find Friday – Airport Macarons

People tell me that traveling for business is not fun. I get it. You hurry to the airport, get strip searched by strangers, are crammed onto a plane, land, go to meetings, rinse, repeat and you’re on a plane back home before you know it. Fortunately, that’s not me. Kidding! I’ll just live vicariously through the rest of my friends who do travel for business. Where am I going with this? I got a present in a small paper bag last evening. A friend who had gone to France returned with a gift. He said “I knew you’d appreciate this.”  I opened the bag to find a giant green thing inside. Race report: 2012 Sporting Life 10K

Another weekend and another race! This weekend, it was the Sporting Life 10K (May 13, 2012). Now, I don’t normally do back to back races but this was one race that I thought was worth running because 100% of the race registration fees were being donated to Camp Oochigeas, a camp for kids with cancer.   Continue reading “Race report: 2012 Sporting Life 10K”
