Route for the 2012 Toronto Goodlife Half Marathon

This is my race report for the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Half Marathon on May 6, 2012. I’ll start off with the “executive summary” for those of you who get squirrely reading race reports. If you want to see pictures, you’ll have to scroll down.

Gear Review – Lolë Sprint Skort

A gift card that’s about to expire… An upcoming half marathon… What to do? I’m going to go and get a new running outfit! Now I know running a race isn’t a competition about who looks the cutest but I’m coming back from a tweaked IT band/knee pain problem so I’m not going to be the fastest runner out there but I can at least try to be the cutest. When I first started running, skirts were some what of a novelty item but now that running has become more mainstream, it seems that everyone and their grandma likes running skirts. And so many companies are in on the action – I found skirts made by Nike, New Balance, Under Armor and even The North Face to name a few. Then I came across an unfamiliar name, Lolë.

Low Fat Pasta Carbonara

There are some nights I get home from work and the last thing I want to do is to cook dinner. I think 99% of you know exactly what I’m talking about. You open the fridge, look around and nothing appeals to you. But you don’t want to call for take-out or eat some fast-food hamburger, and not eating certainly isn’t an option. You want something healthy and you don’t want to have to do a lot of work for it. Okay, this is the recipe for you. It’s easy to make and you probably have most of the ingredients in your fridge right now. Continue reading “Low Fat Pasta Carbonara”

Here we go again – Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge 2013

Last night, I registered for Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge in January 2013. It’s official, I will be going for my second Goofy race! The Goofy race is part of Disney’s annual marathon weekend. It involves completing a half marathon on Saturday and then a full marathon on Sunday. So over the course of two days, I will be logging a total of 39.3 miles.

What’s the draw? For me, I like the challenge of running back to back races and where better to run than the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’? You get to run through the parks, there are characters on course, tons of live entertainment and if you time your full marathon just right, you might even get to take a break mid-race and ride a roller coaster! Let me tell you, Disney knows how to put on a race. But more importantly, marathon weekend is the one of the few opportunities I get to run with friends who live across Canada and the US. We have a ton of fun hanging out at the parks, during the race, and of course celebrating afterward!

So here we go again! I’ll keep you posted on my training progress over the next eight months or so (yikes!) . Even though it’s my second Goofy, I have to say that I’m still a little nervous but definitely looking forward to the experience!

Pineapple Coconut Cookies

When I made the pineapple coconut banana loaf last week, I had leftover pineapple and coconut flakes. What to do? I don’t like having leftovers. Then I remembered a recipe my friend Regina had sent me a while ago. Pineapple coconut cookies? Perfect!

Pineapple Coconut Banana Loaf

As a runner, I always have bananas in my kitchen. Anyone who runs knows that they’re the perfect food – great source of energy, easy on the stomach and they contain potassium which can help to prevent cramping (we lose potassium through sweat). Last week, I wasn’t able to run as much because I had tweaked my knee slightly. It turns out I just needed a bit of rest and my knee was fine, but I had several left over bananas.
